I don't want to use iTunes - Do you offer alternative ways of watching The PM PrepCast?

Cornelius Fichtner, PMP Jan 09

Yes. The PrepCast is delivered to you as an RSS feed. So any program that can handle an RSS feed with video and audio attachments will be able to handle the PrepCast for you. Here are several options for you

Manual Download in Firefox or Internet Explorer

If you use Firefox (at least 2.0) or Internet Explorer (at least 7.0) then you can manually download the episodes. The following video explains how to do this in IE7. It works the same way in Firefox 2:

Here are the quick instructions for you if you don't want to watch the video:

  • Find the "Welcome" email that was sent to you by the PrepCast right after you signed up.
  • This email contains your personal URL.
  • Open this URL in IE7 and it will format the page nicely for you
  • Right-click onto the episode files and select "Save Target As..."
  • Save them to your hard drive
  • Play them in any way you like

Use a News Aggregator

If you have a News Aggregator account - for instance with Google Reader or Yahoo - then you can go that route.

  • Find the "Welcome" email that was sent to you by the PrepCast right after you signed up.
  • This email contains your personal URL.
  • Copy/paste this URL into your reader account.
  • You can now see all episodes in your reader and will be able to right click / download the episodes
  • Save them to your hard drive
  • Play them in any way you like

The good thing with the online readers is, that you can also use them to listen to the episodes from wherever you have access

Use Juice Receiver

Even though we recommend iTunes for it's simple user interface, some people prefer the independent Juice Receiver.
