Introduction [00:00]
Here in the Exam Simulator, I want to show you how to take quizzes and how to take exams.
But before I do that, I want to give you some sort of an idea of an exam-taking strategy with the Simulator. This is what I recommend to everybody. This is how you should start out.
Exam Taking Strategy [00:25]
As you are beginning your studies, your exam prep, you should first study a topic in your course. Then take a quiz, maybe a quiz that is focused on that topic. Then do an in-depth review of the quiz you have just taken. Continue with the next topic, take a quiz, take a review, and so on. So you work your way through several of the topics that you have to study in your exam prep course.
Taking a Quiz [00:59]
And then, when you are ready after you have studied, you come here and you begin taking a quiz. In order to start one of these quizzes, click here of the Timed and Learning quizzes link. This will open up the selection window in a separate window, actually.
Quiz Mode [00:59]
You now have the choice to say, “I want a Timed Quiz.” This will allow you to take sort of the quiz and a little bit more exam-like situations. There is a countdown timer. Or when you say, “I don’t want a timer,” you take a Learning Quiz, and there is no time pressure whatsoever.
Select Number of Questions [01:36]
Maybe it is lunchtime; you only have time for 10 questions. Or maybe it is Saturday morning, and you say, ‘I am going to take 50 questions right now.’
Select Criteria [01:46]
Selection criteria here. By knowledge area, by domain, depending on what you want to do.
And by the way, as I am recording this, these are the selection criteria that we offer. We continuously update and adjust our Exam Simulator. So don’t be surprised when you click on the selection options that you have, that other options, additional options are available. We are continuously updating the Exam Simulator.
Alright! Once you are happy with your selection here, then click on “Start.” Alright! And now, the system will randomly generate a 50-question quiz for you. Your job now is to read the question, select the answer, click on next. Read the question, select the answer. Click on next.
Mark [02:45]
Read the question, “Oh, it could be either B or C. I am not a hundred percent sure! I think it’s C, but it could be B. What do I do?” Well, select the one that you are more comfortable with. C, and now mark the question. This means that later on, you can come back to this question here. You’ll see, “Oh, this is orange exactly. Here I had either B or C; which one is it?” And in that way, you can work your way through the questions that you weren’t sure and had marked.
End Exam [03:19]
So at this time, for the demo, I am going to click on “End Exam.” The system will now give me a warning. Obviously, I have not answered all 50 questions. That’s perfectly okay in this demo here.
Click on “End Exam,” and the exam report now shows up.
Examination Report [03:38]
How many did I get right? Look at this. Two out of three randomly selected, I got those correct.
My recommendation at this point is: Always spend at least the same amount of time reviewing your mistakes as you have spent in answering your questions.
So right now, I would probably want to click here on Q3. Go into the details, and figure out, “Well, why did I get this wrong?” But I’m not going to do this here in my short demo. Instead, I am going to close the window, which takes me back here to my main screen.
My Recent Results [04:18]
Now you may not have noticed this, but at the bottom here under “My Recent Results,” the Learning Quiz that I have just taken here has been added to My Recent Results. And you can see, that’s the one where I had 2 out of 50 questions correct. Okay. So, that was taking one of these Premium Quizzes that we have here.
Full Exams [04:42]
Alright! Now when should you start taking exams? When do you say, “Alright, I now want to add full exams into this?” right? Instead of you know, study the topic, take a quiz, review, study the topic, take a quiz, review; study the topic, take a full exam, review, okay? At what point should you do that? Well, there is really no hard rule. It depends on your own study journey. Generally speaking, my recommendation is this: Take your first full exam here when you’ve studied several of the main topics in your course just to see how it feels.
Right? So you’ll do this here. Study topic, quiz, review, study topic, quiz. A few times, maybe three, four main topics. And then, take an exam. See how it feels. If it feels okay, then alright, keep adding exams. Otherwise, you know, continue with taking the quizzes. By the way, you are not switching from one to the other. You are not saying, “Yeah, I am going to forget about the quizzes up here, and I’m only going to focus on this.” You are adding these here.
Changing Choice After Selecting An Exam [05:52]
The reason for this is: The questions that you see in the Quizzes and the questions that you see down here in the exams are taken from a separate pool, okay? So, now I want to start my first exam here. How do I do that? Well, very simple. Do the same as Premium Quizzes. I am going to click on “PMP Exam” here. I’m going to start this one. Opens up in a new window. I can see the tips that I have here. I can cycle through these tips, and I can read them. But then I realized, “Oh my, I did not want to start Exam 1. I wanted to start Exam 2.” Close the window. There we go! The page refreshes after a second here. And now, I can click on Exam 2. It’s like, yes, that is the exam that I wanted to start.
Click on Start.
Strikethrough [06:46]
And now, it’s exactly the same. Read the question. Select an answer. Click “Next.” Read the question, okay. Select an answer. Let’s see. Click “Next.” Read the question. “Oh, I know that A is wrong. I don’t want to see it anymore. How can I get rid of A?” Right-click on it. Now, you can see, there is a strikethrough going through it. “On-demand” might be right, “Critical path,” no. Right-click to get rid of it kind of visually. Strike it out. And now, I can say, “Okay, it is either On-demand or Pull-based. On-demand!” There we go! That’s my selection. Click on “Next.” So, a very nifty way here, right-clicking to strike out these question choices. If you are doing it on a mobile device, long tap on it, and it will do the same thing for you. Right-click again, and it will remove the strikeout from here.
End Exam [07:54]
Alright! That’s it! We are going to end the demo and exam. Obviously, I have only answered 4 out of 180 questions here. That means the system has given me a warning. Yes, that’s perfectly okay. Let’s see, how many did I get right? Zero this time. Alright! That’s more like it if you just randomly select any type of question here.
Let’s go all the way to the bottom again. Alright. And close the window. There we are. And now, after a second, you will notice PMP Exam 2 is showing up here at the bottom with zero of 180 correct.
Help Button [8:37]
Let me remind you also that here, in this left-hand side menu, there is this “Help” button. And when you click on the Help button, this will take you to the tutorials where under the “Exam Simulator Tutorials” here, we have a lot more tutorials available for you. In particular, this one here, if you haven’t seen this yet, will be interesting “Question Types.” Remember, we are adding new tutorials constantly and updating them, so it may not be in this exact position. Look for the “Question Types,” it will show you the various question types that are available in the Exam Simulator so that you know how to handle those.
Closing [9:20]
Yes! And that’s it for our walk-through, our brief, high-level walkthrough of the Exam Simulator.
Thank you again for being a customer and until next time.
